John Fouse, 907 Tours, Anchorage Day Tours
Originally from the Chicago suburbs, John came to Alaska in 1970 while in the US Army. He served in the Special Forces and in various Airborne and Ranger units in Viet Nam. On one of his Alaskan training missions he jumped into Little Diomede Island. He is one of the few people who has actually seen Russia from Alaska. (Little Diomede (US) is two and a half miles away from Big Diomede Island (RUS)). After separating from the Army, he worked as a project manager on the construction of the Valdez oil terminal and several pump stations. His career even took him to Saudi Arabia where he worked at the start of building the petro-chemical seaport project at Yanbou on the Red Sea. He spent the rest of his career on the North Slope working in management for a contractor to ARCO and Conoco Phillips. Mostly undefeated, John won several rally championships as a driver in the BC Rally Series. He loves cars of all kinds, just ask him about any car and he will know about it. Now retired, he was lovingly trained by Susan, and is quite happy working as a tour guide.
SusanFouse, 907 Tours, Anchorage Day Tours
Susan is a trained tour guide having worked eight seasons for Princess Tours and Holland-America Princess 2002-2009 full and part time on the train between Anchorage and Fairbanks, and Whittier and Denali. She first came to Alaska in 1975 with her two year old son, Nate, driving a Chevy van loaded with all her possessions up the Alaska Highway from her hometown in upstate New York. She saw the Chugach Mountains and knew she was home. Because she had her young son, Susan worked in Anchorage for pipeline related companies. Before tourism, she also worked for large and small construction companies. One of her favorite jobs was working for a company that built ice-roads in the North Slope oilfields. She loves racing cars and, with John's help, participated in motor sports and won several championships in road racing and ice racing. Yes, against the boys. She also ran several marathons and was a member of the 1997 Oneness Home Peace Run, a four-month relay around the US visiting schools to share the message, "Peace Begins with Me." Many of her friends call her Palyati.
